Dissatisfaction and Opportunism: Cause and Effect
Dr. NGUYEN THANH GIANG
In this article, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Giang raised the cases of such elements who once were in the leader ranks of the communist party and government, such names as: TRAN DO, HOANG HUU NHAN, NGUYEN KHOA DIEM etc. These elements are divided into two groups:
- Those who were dissatisfied with the regime but awakened and would like to bring new life to the nation: Tran Do, Hoang Huu Nhan, Hoang Minh Chinh etc
- Those who were opportunists and only paid attention to the advance in the ranks of the system, especially Nguyen Khoa Diem, and other servants for the communist party in all branches/activites. The writer identified what is opportunism and cited Associate Professor Nguyen Thi Doan’s work to put forward the relationship between opportunism and pragmatism, for such men that always took opportunities to serve their own interests. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Giang raised the cases of such men as Nguyeãn Khaéc Vieän, Nguyeãn Hoä, Nguyeãn Vaên Traán, Hoaøng Minh Chính, Traàn Do etc. and said that these men had no opportunities to take advantage as they retired (some died a long time ago). Only those to serve as lackeys or servants to the regime (as Nguyen Khoa Diem) have become opportunists, as their attitude and spirit showed that they are only for their interests and are not true intellectuals or activists to struggle for a new Vietnam with freedom and democracy. They stick to the Ho Chi Minh Thoughts and socialist directions.
