LOCAL ELECTED OFFICIALS RESPOND TO COMMUNITY OUTCRY OVER CHILD SEX OFFENDER LIVING
IN GARDEN GROVE MOTELS
State Senator Lou Correa, County Supervisor Janet Nguyen, Mayor Bill Dalton, Garden
Grove School Board Trustee Dr. Kim-Oanh Nguyen-Lam to Hold Community Meeting
GARDEN GROVE – Garden Grove Mayor Bill Dalton, State Senator Lou Correa, and
Orange County Supervisor Janet Nguyen today joined Garden Grove residents in voicing
their concerns over the recent surge in the number of paroled child sex offenders
staying at two local motels.
“It is an outrage to have so many sexual predators concentrated in one area and so
close to homes.  We need to protect our children from these predators and not allow
them to prey on our children,” said Supervisor Janet Nguyen, a former Garden Grove
City Councilwoman.
Correa, Dalton , and Nguyen are working with local residents to hold a community
meeting next week to discuss ways to protect the public from high risk sex offenders
and sexually violent predators living in the area.
“My single greatest priority as a state senator and as a parent is the safety and
well being of our children. These high risk sex offenders pose a serious threat to
public safety and we must take every necessary step to be informed and to protect
our families from that threat,” said Senator Correa.

The Garden Grove Police Department issued a public warning Thursday to nearby
residents, businesses, and schools within in a quarter-mile of the motels, Garden
Grove Inn and Hospitality Inn.
“I commend our Garden Grove Police for the great work they have done to inform
and respond to our residents and their concerns,” said Mayor Dalton. “It is
critical that local community officials, law enforcement, and residents are engaged
in decisions affecting safety of our community.”
Local school officials are also promptly responding to this growing problem. Garden
Grove Unified School District will be sending home letters in English, Vietnamese,
and Spanish to parents.
“I am extremely concerned that this is happening and it is happening near our
schools, said Dr. Nguyen-Lam. “I am asking our parents to empower themselves and
get involved as a community for our children’s safety.”
