Dear
Sir,
I'm
writing to express my deep appreciation for your continuing support and
concern for the democracy movement and human rights violations in
Viet Nam
.
While the imprisonment and unfair trial of Father Nguyen
Van Ly was brought to the attention of the House of Commons by
Mr. Pierre Lemieux on March 30,
2007, there are many more lesser known democracy activists and their
family members are being harassed, arrested, or under 24 hour
surveillance and for some, their whereabouts are
still unknown. To name a few of particular concerns that needs
immediate intervention: Attorney Le Quoc Quan, Attorney Tran Thi Thuy Trang, Attorney Nguyen Bac Truyen, Attorney Nguyen Van
Dai, Attorney Le Thi Cong Nhan,
Venerable Thich Thien Tam, Venerable Thich Hue Lam, Former-Pastor Hồng Trung, Mr. Nguyen
Ngoc Quang, Reporter Huynh Nguyen Dao, Mr. Tran Quoc Hien, Mr. Nguyen Tan Hoanh, Ms.Tran Thi Le Hang, Ms. Duong Thi Tron, Ms. Tran Khai Thanh Thuy, Ms. Vu Thanh Phuong, Ms. Le Thi Kim Thu,
Ms. Ho Thi Bich Khuong, Mr. Le Tri Tue, Mr. Hoang Huy ChÆ°Æ¡ng, Mr. Ãoan Van Dien, Mr. Le Ba Triet, Mr. Nguyen Tuan, Mr. Le Trung Hieu, Mr. Pham Ba Hai, Mr. Truong Quoc Huy, Mr. Vu Hoang Hai, Mr.VÆ°Æ¡ng Quoc Hoai, Mr. Le Van Soc, Mr. Nguyen Van Thi, Mr. Nguyen Van Tho, Mr.
Trinh Quoc Thao, Mr. Truong
Van Suong, and Engineers Do Nam Hai, Bach Ngoc Duong, Nguyen Phuong Anh, Pham Van Troi and
some tens religious members of CaoDaism, and
an uncountable number of followers of the Hoa Hao faith, and more than 350 Protestant members in Tay Nguyen province.
I
respectfully urge you to take a strong stand to support democracy and
human rights in Viet Nam by applying diplomatic and economic pressure
on the Vietnamese authorities for the immediate release of Father Nguyen Van
Ly, Mr. Nguyen Phong, Mr. Nguyen Binh Thanh, Reporter Nguyen Vu Binh and
for fair trials with proper legal representation of their choice for Attorneys
Le Quoc Quan (Mr.), Tran Thi Thuy Trang (Ms.), Le Thi Cong Nhan (Ms.), Nguyen Van Dai (Mr.), Nguyen Bac Truyen (Mr.) who are in custody without
trial nor visiting rights from their family.
It is
with pride that I take notice of Mr. Pierre Lemieux's address to the House of Commons on March 30, comdemning against the unfair trial of the Catholic Priest, Father Nguyen Van Ly
by the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and that his speech has been videotaped
and globally distributed on YouTube and is
now available on all Vietnamese websites world-wide, and that has
generated a wide international media coverage. I join the Vietnamese-Canadian
community across
Canada
to support you and your colleagues in your vigilant watch over the
human rights abuses in
Viet
Nam
.
Sincerely
Yours,
