Jack Ma is a Chinese entrepreneur and the founder of Alibaba Group, one of the largest e-commerce companies in the world. He was born on September 10, 1964, in Hangzhou, China.
Ma's journey to success was not easy. After graduating from Hangzhou Teacher's Institute with a degree in English, he faced many rejections before finally getting a job as an English teacher. He later founded an internet company called China Pages, which failed. Undeterred, he went on to found Alibaba in 1999, which initially started as a B2B (business-to-business) online marketplace connecting Chinese manufacturers with overseas buyers.
Under Ma's leadership, Alibaba rapidly expanded its services to include online retail platforms, payment systems, cloud computing, and digital media and entertainment. Today, Alibaba is one of the largest e-commerce companies in the world, with a market capitalization of over $500 billion.
Aside from his business success, Ma is also known for his philanthropic work. He founded the Jack Ma Foundation, which focuses on education, environmental protection, and public health. In 2019, he stepped down as chairman of Alibaba, but remains a prominent figure in the business world and a philanthropist.
